The South Downs PLOD is a team endurance challenge that begins at midnight on 29 July, from Devil’s Dyke near Brighton. The four walkers and their support driver will be pushed to the limit in aid of this worthy cause.
Wayne Rimmer, Darren Carling, Matt Bedden and Brian Allen will be doing the hard work, while support driver Keith Knox keeps them moving with supplies, refreshments and encouragement.
Wayne Rimmer, deputy site manager at Portsmouth’s Materials Recovery Facility, said: “We’ve all got different expectations for the PLOD, whether it’s the physical challenge or the peace and quiet of the Downs, and none of us are looking forward to stiff muscles and blisters. But how could we say no to walking a few miles to raise much-needed funds, when some of these children have to face much bigger challenges every day of their lives?”
