Veolia Environmental Services are celebrating an award-winning apprentice, following a ceremony at Loughborough College, where Mark Jennings received the accolade for ‘Mechanical and Electrical Power Student of the Year’.
Mark, aged 23 and a resident of Southampton, is nearly halfway through a four-year apprenticeship at Portsmouth’s iconic Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). Mark has a family connection with the industry, with an uncle already working as a shift team leader at the Marchwood facility near Southampton.
Mark applied through Veolia’s apprentice scheme, which will see him receive a certificate and diploma. “I hope this award, alongside my apprenticeship will help me get a permanent role in engineering. This scheme is giving me the skills that I can use anywhere in the power industry, but I really enjoy working for Veolia.”
Ben Slater, Regional Managing Director for Veolia, said: “We offer our congratulations to Mark in his success achieving this award. Our apprentice scheme runs across the country, but we are proud to have a worker of Mark’s calibre here in Hampshire.”
Mark’s award was presented by Jitu Choudhury, governor of Loughborough College, with a trophy, toolkit and a multimeter – an essential piece of kit for anyone working in the electrical industry.
