The event is designed to show how recycling collected from across the county is sorted, separated and prepared to be made into new products.
During the day visitors can experience:
• A behind-the-scenes tour of the facility
• Up-close guided tour, to find out about the technology
• Educational games for younger visitors
Facility Manager, Keith Knox of Veolia Environmental Services said:
“We think this is a great opportunity for our neighbours and local residents to come and explore what happens at our site. We hope people will come to meet us and gain an inside view on how we are working behind the scenes on their behalf!”
Alton Materials Recovery Facility is part of the Project Integra network of waste management infrastructure, designed to handle Hampshire’s household waste and recycling. In Hampshire over 36% of our waste is recycled, and just 10% is sent to landfill. Visitors will find out how we deal with all types of waste from the county’s 1.72 million residents.
